Integration debugging
Madison's Niche
Problem
Rebuy Smart Cart was running on a legacy widget integration Shopify had superseded with App Blocks, and a third-party performance agency was deferring and re-injecting scripts in a way that broke real-time cart functionality and corrupted Klaviyo's add-to-cart tracking.
Solution
Removed the legacy Rebuy snippets and migrated the integration to App Blocks, unwound the conflicting script injections, and replaced the broken Klaviyo ATC code with verified native tracking, tested on a dev theme before going live.
Outcome
Rebuy Smart Cart fully operational again, Klaviyo tracking restored, and third-party conflicts resolved with no regression to existing functionality.
-
Custom sections
Motive Goods
Problem
Out-of-the-box Horizon sections couldn't carry the editorial depth a premium brand needs. Product pages lacked the structure to justify the price point, and the homepage felt generic next to the brand's showroom aesthetic.
Solution
Built a full suite of custom Liquid sections and blocks on Horizon, split content, features grid, comparison table, a Web Component FAQ accordion, guarantee CTA, reviews and an install bento, in a dark "Editorial Obsidian" direction, with improved navigation and mobile layout.
Outcome
A tailored theme system that matches the brand positioning. Motive Goods moved to an ongoing monthly retainer.
-
Theme upgrade
Xado
Problem
Xado's Empire theme had fallen behind, limiting access to current theme features, performance improvements and compatibility with newer app integrations.
Solution
Executed a clean Empire theme upgrade, carefully migrating existing customisations to the new version with no data loss or visual regression.
Outcome
Theme upgraded and live, delivered quickly and diligently.
"Phil has been excellent, quick to take on the task, diligent throughout, and willing to revisit if any issues arise. A truly professional job completed."

Step 2
Estimate
You get a clear scope, timeline and cost. No vague day rates, no surprises later.
-
Step 3
Build
I build it, keep you updated, and flag anything that needs a decision early, not at the deadline.

Step 4
Launch & support
Tested, launched and handed over properly. Ongoing support available if you want it.

Frequently asked questions
Short, honest answers. Anything else, just ask.
What does a freelance Shopify developer do?
A freelance Shopify developer builds and improves Shopify stores directly for brands, or as support for agencies, theme development, custom sections, integrations, performance work and CRO builds, without agency overhead.
Do you work with Shopify agencies?
Yes. A good part of my work is white-label development for agencies and studios, building from your designs, to your timeline, under your brand. You manage the client, I handle the build.
Can you build custom Shopify sections?
Yes. I build bespoke sections and blocks that behave like native theme features, fully configurable in the theme editor, so your team can manage content without touching code or installing another app.
Can you work from Figma designs?
Yes. I build accurate, responsive Shopify themes straight from Figma, delivered as flexible, reusable sections rather than rigid one-off pages, so the design stays editable after launch.
Do you work with Shopify Plus?
Yes. I support Plus stores with checkout extensibility, B2B, multi-store setups and migration work, alongside the usual theme and section development.
Can you improve an existing Shopify theme?
Yes. I regularly pick up existing themes for performance fixes, Core Web Vitals work, code cleanup and new features, without a full rebuild where one isn't needed.
Do you work with Klaviyo and third-party integrations?
Yes. I regularly work with Klaviyo, Rebuy Smart Cart, and similar tools at the code level, fixing broken event tracking, migrating legacy implementations to App Blocks, resolving third-party conflicts, and getting integrations working the way they were supposed to out of the box.
Do you offer ongoing Shopify support?
Yes. Many clients keep me on for ongoing development, whether that's a regular block of hours, CRO test builds, or being on hand for fixes and new sections as they're needed.
Are you based in the UK?
Yes. I'm based in Northern Ireland and work with clients across the UK and further afield. Remote work is the norm, so location isn't a barrier.
